Cusco & Salcantay to Machu Picchu 8 days 7 nights (Double occupancy) Visit: Cusco, Sacred Valley, Salcantay trek (5 days 4 nights) & Machu Picchu. Itinerary DAY 1 CUSCO After your arrival to Cusco Airport. You will be taken to the Hotel. Note: we recommend flights early in the morning so you can do your city tour. You can have some lunch ether in your hotel or some were around at Cusco. Around 1.30/ 1.45pm you will start your Cusco´s city tour, during the city tour you will visit the Main square, The Cathedral, the Koricancha themple, Sacsayhuaman, Q'enko, Puka Pukara and Tambomachay, you will be finishing your city tour around 6.30pm on the main square so you can have something to eat at the nearby restaurants. Today you have: Breakfast Accommodation: Selected hotel / hostel. DAY 2 SACRED VALLEY FULL DAY TOUR You will be picked up at your Hotel around 8:15 and 8.30am, during this tour you will visit the Sacred Valley of the Incas, over the Vilcanota river, you will see, Pisac an old Inca City and a visit to the Inka market in this village, you will have the opportunity to interact with the local craftsmen to by some hand-made souvenirs., afterwards we'll head for Urubamba, traveling on the borders of the river Vilcanota. You will have lunch at a restaurant in the Sacred Valley of the Incas. In the afternoon we visit the fortress and citadel of Ollantaytambo, built to watch the entrance to this part of the valley and protect it from the jungle habitants invasions. We'll have the chance to walk by the narrow streets and have a clear knowledge of how this militar, religious and cultural center was during the Inca empire. When you return to Cusco you will stop on the village of Chinchero , where you will find the ruins of the Tupac Inca Yupanqui, you will see its well preserved Inca wall in the main square and you will visit the beauty Colonial Temple with invaluable portraits, built over Inca Bases. Return to Cusco Around 6.30pm. The sacred valley tour finishes at the main square for you to have dinner. Today you have: breakfast and lunch. Accommodation: Selected hotel / hostel Free dinner show for first and exclusive class SALKANTAY – LLACTAPATA – MACHUPICCHU 5/4 This trek is better suited for more adventure some trekkers who are able to handle a little more altitude and distance. This trek takes you up and along Salkantay, which is the second largest mountain in the Cusco region (6280 msn). On the first night, you will sleep not too far away from the snow capped peak. The second day will be the hardest day of the tour. While you work a bit harder to get there, the views at the top are even more stellar. After you reach the 4,600 meterpass, it is almost pure downhill, descending into a more tropical area on the far side of the mountain. You will take the forty five minute train ride to Aguas Calientes from the famous Hydro Electric Dam and then spend the rest of the 4th evening relaxing in the town. In the morning you take the bus up to Machu Picchu for your tour. DAY 3 CUSCO / SORAYPAMPA. 06.00 am. Departure by our private transport to Mollepata 2900 mts. A beautiful scenic journey through Limatambo, with stops for panoramic views of the “Apu Salkantay. One can see awesome chains of magnificent snow capped mountains and the lush Apurimac River Valley. After we arrive to our trailhead, called Mollepata 3000 asl. we meet our Arrieros “ horsemen “ and trekking staff, (Cook, and Assistants). We trek for about 3hrs before lunch through traditional Andean communities like Cruzpata, Challacancha where we stop for lunch. We continue walking for approx 3 hrs through unspoiled Andean villages to Soraypampa 3850 mts, our first campsite. ( Walking distance aproximately 20 km.) DAY 4 SORAYPAMPA / CHAULLAY. After an early breakfast we start trekking from approx 07:00am for 3 hours to start our ascent of the Apacheta pass 4590 mts. From this point we can appreciate the spectacular views of the Mountain Salkantay ,a stunning snow capped mountain (6264 mts) the second highest peak in Cusco’s region, and also the mountains Humantay and Huayanay, white river, small lakes and moraines. 2 hrs dowhill to lunch in Huayracpunku, and then a further 2-3 hrs downhill walk to Camp in Rayan-niyoc at 2890 mts or Camp at Chaullay 2920 mts for experienced trekkers . To be decided by the guide depending on the groups abilities and weather and walking conditions. ( Walking distance aproximately 21 Km. to Chaullay) DAY 5 CHAULLAY / LA PLAYA. We start the trek 07:00 am. 3 hours easy hiking to Uscamayuc, where we will be introduced to a high Jungle niche called Ceja de Selva, we will see different kind of plants, fruits, flowers, birds ect. here coca and banana crops can be observed, time to shower in a waterfall, take amazing pictures, with luck we can observe the famous Peruvian National Bird " Gallito de las Rocas " stop at Wiñaypoq’o for Lunch + free time to rest . 3 hour walk to our last campsite in La Playa 2350 mts .A small village is located here with electricity and a shop! (Walking distance aproximately 18 km.) DAY 6 LA PLAYA / AGUAS CALIENTES . Approx 07:30 am we begin our trek to the village Lucmabamba, here we see the remains of an Inka trail, we follow this rising trail, from which we will see plantations of coffee, banana, passion fruit and a lovely view of the Santa Teresa Valley. We follow the Inka trail climbing up for 4 hrs to Llactapata 2700 mts. From here, we can see Machupicchu (Inca city) and enjoy some free time to rest, 2 hrs. Downhill to the hydroelectric plant 1870 mts. where we have the last lunch with all staff. At 15:20 pm. we will take 45 minute train journey to Aguas Calientes town 2000 mt. Special Dinner and great beds in your hotel, optional hot spring baths. ( Walking distance aproximately 12 km.) * Walking poles recommended for the 2 final hours downhill. DAY 7 MACHUPICCHU / CUSCO. Early bus for 25 minutes to the Machupicchu city, guided tour for 3 hours and plenty of free time for further exploring, photos and optional climb of the mountain Huayna Picchu, Temple of the Moon, or the Gate of the Sun. Generally around 1pm people back to Aguas Calientes for lunch. You’ll take your return train to Cusco. DAY 8 TRANSFER TO THE AIRPORT Transfer to the airport for your domestic flight to Lima. Today you have: breakfast. Note: This day you can either add an extra nigh in Lima, or take your international flight on the same day from the airport in Lima.
