Cusco, Short Inca Trail & Machu Picchu 5 days 4 nights Visit: Cusco, Short Inca Trail & Machu Picchu Itinerary Note: There are no international flights arriving to Cusco, for this reason you can either stay one night before in Lima and the second day take your flight to Cusco or arrive early to the airport and take a connection flight to Cusco. DAY 1 CUSCO After your arrival to Cusco Airport. You will be taken to the Hotel. Note: we recommend flights early in the morning so you can do your city tour. You can have some lunch ether in your hotel or some were around at Cusco. Around 1.30/ 1.45pm you will start your Cusco´s city tour, during the city tour you will visit the Main square, The Cathedral, the Koricancha themple, Sacsayhuaman, Q'enko, Puka Pukara and Tambomachay, you will be finishing your city tour around 6.30pm on the main square so you can have something to it at the nearby restaurants. DAY 2 SACRED VALLEY FULL DAY TOUR You will be picked up at your Hotel around 8:15 and 8.30am, during this tour you will visit the Sacred Valley of the Incas, over the Vilcanota river, you will see, Pisac an old Inca City and a visit to the Inka market in this village, you will have the opportunity to interact with the local craftsmen to by some hand-made souvenirs., afterwards we'll head for Urubamba, traveling on the borders of the river Vilcanota. You will have lunch at a restaurant in the Sacred Valley of the Incas. In the afternoon we visit the fortress and citadel of Ollantaytambo, built to watch the entrance to this part of the valley and protect it from the jungle habitants invasions. We'll have the chance to walk by the narrow streets and have a clear knowledge of how this militar, religious and cultural center was during the Inca empire. When you return to Cusco you will stop on the village of Chinchero , where you will find the ruins of the Tupac Inca Yupanqui, you will see its well preserved Inca wall in the main square and you will visit the beauty Colonial Temple with invaluable portraits, built over Inca Bases. Return to Cusco Around 6.30pm. The sacred valley tour finishes at the main square for you to have dinner. Today you have: breakfast and lunch. Accommodation: Selected hotel / hostel Free dinner show for first and exclusive class SHORT INKA TRAIL 2 DAYS 1 NIGHT This trip allows a taste of the Inca Trail without days of hiking and camping. We begin the hike from the train stop at Kilometer 104 and follow the trail for six hours to the spectacular view of Machu Picchu from Inti Punku, The gate of the Sun. From here we descend into the world famous “Lost City”. After a restful night in the selected hotel/hostel, we return to Machu Picchu at dawn to see the ruins in perfect morning light. In the afternoon, We return to Cusco by train. DAY 3 CUSCO – KM 104 – WIÑAYWAYNA – MACHUPICCHU We take the train from Cusco or Ollantaytambo, following the Urubamba river to Km.104 of the railroad, where we alight and cross a footbridge to begin our hike at the Inca site of Chachabamba. After a brief visit to this lovely ruin with its water channels and fountains, we start the four-hour ascent that will take us past spectacular overlooks above the great valley, then below a lovely waterfall near the delightful site of Wiñay Wayna (Forever Young). We ascend through this largest and most exquisite of the Inca Trail sites, passing its chain of ritual baths and elegantly curved terracing, and then joining the main Inca trail. We follow it across a steep mountainside and up narrow stairways through lush, humid cloud-forest of giant ferns and broad-leaf vegetation. Suddenly we cross the stone threshold of Intipunku (Sun Gate) and encounter an unforgettable sweep of natural beauty and human artistry –a backdrop of twisting gorge and forested peaks framing the magical city of Machu Picchu. We walk the last half-hour or so down the royal flagstone walkway, past outlying shrines and buildings and through the heart of Machu Picchu, taking a bus to the small town of Aguas Calientes where we overnight in a local hotel. After we visit the most fascinating features of this astounding and mysterious Inca settlement, some will want to take the optional hike to an amazing overview of the site, while other may prefer to investigate Machu Picchu’s multitude of hidden nooks and corners. After a full-on experience of this glorious monument to the Inca achievement, we return to Aguas Calientes and board the return train to Cusco.
